Press Release: Dr. Asri & JAIS
2nd Nov. 2009

English Version

IMAN (Interactive Muslimah association) is greatly disturbed by the JAIS-Dr. Asri issue that shocks the Ummah in Malaysia. This incident incites the Ummah into taking sides and thus will throw the Ummah against each other.

Surely the Ummah does not need such a situation. Surely the focus and effort for all Muslims, let alone Islamic institutions, agencies and organizations are to wisely promote and propagate the teachings of Islam to benefit one and all.

The reason JAIS gave for its actions against Dr. Asri is that he has no "tauliyah" to teach Islam in the State of Selangor. Dr. Asri, however, is a scholar on Islam, in Qur'an and Hadith in particular. It is his duty and responsibility to teach Islam, a "tauliyah" in the form of Divine Mandate (Amanah Illahi). Should the learned Dr. put JAIS above Allah Almighty's Commands?!

Moreover, it is surely against the ethics of Islam and also against the adab and nature of the Malays to rough-up scholars, let alone the ‘ulama’. Muslims and Malays are thus insulted and challenged by this action of JAIS. What in the eyes of JAIS may seem to be an act to correct a “wrong”, in the ultimate, has resulted in a greater wrong.

IMAN calls upon JAIS to clarify what this "tauliyah" is all about, how it is awarded, what are the criteria for awarding them and on what grounds are they denied, and who are authorized to award them.

President IMAN

Versi B. Malaysia

From the President's Desk

I woke up before fajr this morning with a thought over Faridah's mail. In my previous two mails, I had explained to some details why I strongly believe not to get into a tango with people whose mission is to revise Islam for their own specific purposes, humiliate our 'ulama' and discredit mainstream Muslims....
